Seaweed has been used all over the world either as fertile material, food or body treatment since the beginning of human time.
It is an established superfood, both environmentally and nutritionally, containing the highest concentration of vitamins and minerals than any other food group on earth.

Harvesting seaweed is ruled by the moon, the tides and the swell. It’s up to the ocean to decide if one can harvest or not. Each species grows differently and needs its own harvesting and drying method.

With A Drive For Seaweed I am proposing an alternative lifestyle where I adapt my personal rhythm towards this food source - the seaweed itself.

The lived design I have created on the back of a truck allows me to harvest, process and cook the seaweed on site. It invites the public to reconnect with seaweed through learning how to identify, forage and cook various species of hand harvested seaweed.

The interior of the van exposes post - speculative design objects that all carry seaweed related stories and are a mix of ready mades, found items or designed and made for seaweed harvesting.
